Tuba City Humane Society event

More than 160 dogs and cats, including the dogs pictured above, were spayed and neutered in Tuba City over the weekend of Nov. 16 and 17. Best Friends Animal Society and Soul Dog Rescue sponsored the event and the Tuba City Humane Society along with veterinarian Carol Holgate and The Moenkopi Legacy Inn served as the hosts. Moenkopi Legacy Inn donated its three conference rooms for the event. Animals were brought from The Gap, the Upper and Lower Villages of Moenkopi and surrounding areas. A tent was set up in the parking lot as a temporary waiting room. Free vaccinations, new collars, leashes and dog food were also provided. Approximately 832 vaccinations were given. Sick and injured animals were seen and treated by vets. Many volunteers helped ensure the two days were problem-free. In addition, 24 dogs and cats were rescued. Best Friends took five dogs with broken legs to their sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, for surgery and rehabilitation. Pet owners who were unable to attend the event can still take advantage of low-cost spay and neuter; call (928)283-6184 for information. (Courtesy photos)
