The condition of some of the approximately 150 horses on the Havasupai Indian Reservation continues to raise concerns as visitors to Supai Village and the waterfalls return with stories and photos of underweight and injured animals. The tribe defends its new monitoring system as protecting the vast majority of their horses from abuse. The Coconino Humane Association in Flagstaff has received a total of eight horses brought out of Supai who were in desperate need of care.
