Chris Gomez and Emily Harrison wrapped up the Run Flagstaff Summer Series with wins in the 15k of Saturday’s 2015 Gaspin’ in the Aspen at the Flagstaff Nordic Center.
With Nick Arciniaga, the series leader entering the day, not among the competitors for the final race, Gomez paced the field with a time of 54:00. In his four races this year, Gomez came away with four top-5 finishes to sit second in the men’s division standings.
Gabe McGowan, Ryan Stevens, Will Drexler and Caleb Schiff rounded out the top five overall finishers.
While Harrison won the women’s race and took sixth overall in 59:25, Saturday’s 13th and 14th-place finishers decided the women’s division winner for the series. Sara Wagner, entering with a slight edge in the standings, finished in 1:06:14 to beat out Michelle Wesson’s 1:06:17 for her ninth consecutive series title. The two entered atop the standings, with Wagner at 2.8838 and Wesson at 2.8528.
Wagner competed in four of the six races this summer, finishing second among women three times and third in Saturday's run. Wesson ran in all six races, finishing among the top three women in the first five races before today's fourth-place finish.
Rob Decot’s 1:03:18 and Ray Lobato’s 1:16:39, eighth and 37th overall, kept them atop their men’s masters and grand masters divisions. Austin Horn’s 15th overall finish in 1:06:42 also kept him in first for the men’s youth standings.
