Sierra Bezdicek shot her best round of the year with a 4-under 68 as the Northern Arizona University golf team finished the second day of UNLV's Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Monday morning at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club.

It was a strong showing by the Lumberjacks, as the team improved three spots to a tie for No. 12 in the standings. NAU shot a 7-over 295 to push its two-day score to 15-over (591 total strokes). The round tied Northern Arizona's best round for the fall season.

Bezdicek tied for second for the day with her individual score. For the tournament, the senior sits in a tie for 10th at 4-under after shooting an even-par 72 the day before.

Kaitlyn Saum, Sofia Anokhina and Emma Reyes all had solid second rounds. Saum shot a 2-over 74 for the second day in a row while Anokhina finished with a 4-over 76. Reyes shot a 5-over 77.

Saum is tied for 47th at 4-over after two days of competition. Anokhina is slotted in a tie for 69th with a 7-over showing. Reyes is tied for 91st at 13-over.

Loren Skibba rounded out the NAU scoring with a 6-over 78 performance. She is tied for 81st.

Lexi Keene and Carly Akine also competed in the event, but did so as individuals. Keen finished the second round with a 5-over 77 while Akine shot an 8-over 80.

Northern Arizona will conclude the final round of the Collegiate Showdown with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.


Northern Arizona University junior cornerback Maurice Davison has been named as ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

Davison's selection marks the fifth consecutive week that at least one Lumberjack has received a Big Sky Player of the Week award.

NAU (5-2, 4-0 Big Sky) has received a total of six Big Sky Player of the Week honors through the first seven games of 2017.

The junior cornerback pulled down an interception for the third time in as many games and recorded a team-leading 10 tackles (five solo, five assists), including 1.5 tackles for loss, in the win over UC Davis last Saturday.

Davison was also selected as the College Madness Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week.

The No. 22/ RV Lumberjacks are home for the second straight game this weekend as they host Sacramento State (4-3, 3-1 Big Sky) in a key Big Sky Conference clash on Saturday in a 4 p.m. kickoff from the Skydome.


Leading the Northern Arizona volleyball team back to the .500 mark in conference play, redshirt junior Kaylie Jorgenson was named the Big Sky's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The honor is the first of Jorgenson's career and the first for the Lumberjacks this season.

Jorgenson was instrumental in NAU sweeping its Montana State-Montana road trip this past week, a pivotal move in the standings for the Lumberjacks with three games remaining the regular season. The outside hitter from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan averaged 5.00 kills per set and totaled 35 kills in the two road victories.

The Northern Arizona volleyball team hosts Sacramento State on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Rolle Activity Center.
