Northern Arizona will fill its special teams coaching vacancy with a familiar face to members of its staff, as Bruce Read will take on the role for the 2018 season.
Read, a former special teams coach in college, the NFL and CFL, is the son of Don Read, the former head coach of Portland State and Montana. Head coach Jerome Souers and wide receivers coach Robin Pflugrad both served as assistants under Don Read while Bruce Read was also on the staff in Missoula.
After a decade at Montana, Bruce Read moved to Oregon State under head coach Mike Riley in 1997. Following Riley to the NFL, Read coached for the San Diego Chargers from 1999-2001 and moved to the New York Giants from 2002-03. After Riley returned to Oregon State in 2003, Read followed with stints from 2004-06 and 2009-14 with a short tenure with the Dallas Cowboys inbetween.
Riley moved from Oregon State to Nebraska in 2015, and Read again joined the staff from 2015-16 before coaching for the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL last season.
