The ninth-seeded Coconino Panthers had their season come to a close on Tuesday, falling 25-27, 25-23, 25-16, 25-21 to the hosting Nogales Apaches, the No. 8 seed in the 4A Conference state volleyball tournament.
With the loss in four sets, the Panthers finished their season with a 13-5 overall record. It was Dana Parker's final match playing for Coconino, ending a stretch of four years during which she was the leading outside hitter for the Panthers.
In her first year at the helm, Panthers head coach Bree Davis helped her team go 28-15 overall when including tournament matches that didn't affect the regular-season standings or power rankings. Coconino went in a seed higher this season than it did a year ago.
The Panthers have not made it to the quarterfinals since the 2014 season.
