Flagstaff’s Hana Hall won an individual title on the way to helping the Eagles girls cross country team take first place at the Division II, Section Two meet on Tuesday, with their counterparts also coming away with the crown.
Both of Flagstaff’s squads placed two runners in the top 10 on Wednesday at the Rose Mofford 5K course in Phoenix. Hall clocked a 17:44 flat for first place and teammate and fellow junior Brianna White crossed the finish line in fifth place with a 19:05.0 time, helping the Eagles girls record 49 points. Riley Human and Nate Milton led the Flagstaff boys to a score of 56 points, with the former finishing third overall in 16:09.0 and the latter taking ninth place in 16:38.3.
Sunrise Mountain took second place as a team on both sides, ending the meet with 57 points from the girls and 67 from the boys. Braedon Palmer won the boys title for Sunrise Mountain, ending his race with a time of 15:48.4.
Hall now has three first-place finishes in her last four 5K races.
Gabrial Harju and Anna Harmon each came away with 11th-place finishes for the Eagles, who have won the last three boys and girls state championships. None of the Flagstaff girls missed a top 25 result, as Breanna Biggambler finished 14th, Grace Walker 18th, Olivia Schepper 24th and Sayti Plank 25th. Only one of Flagstaff’s boys missed matching the girls’ feat, as Ryan Hatch took 16th place, Alan Hagerman 17th, Zac Joyce 19th and Trey Ben 34th.
Now Flagstaff will turn its attention to the D-II state meet, set to take place Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Cave Creek Golf Course.
Northland Prep Academy, Coconino and Basis Flagstaff will compete in their respective section meets Friday at the Hidden Cove course in Holbrook.
