Emmnauel De Niz had a hat trick and the Flagstaff Eagles remained undefeated with a Friday home shutout victory over the Lee Williams Volunteers, 5-0.
The No. 2-ranked Eagles got the first-half shutout from Connor Caslin and the second-half clean sheet from Mark Cardenas en route to winning the Grand Canyon Region opener.
Flagstaff (6-0, 1-0) also received goals from Leo Thull and Marco Avitia. De Niz finished with an assist, as did Guillermo Soto, who provided a pass that would turn into a shot into the back of the net.
Flagstaff continues the region schedule on the road in Prescott Valley against the 25th-ranked Bradshaw Mountain Bears on Wednesday.
Team captain Brianna White scored twice on 20 total shots and the Flagstaff Eagles girls soccer team won its Grand Canyon Region opener on Thursday, beating the Lee Williams Volunteers.
Zalma Cadova and Hailey Schlenker also recorded goals for the Eagles, who won 4-1 on the road for their third straight victory after finishing a match against Arcadia in mid-December on a 2-2 tie.
Flagstaff, ranked No. 8 in the 4A Conference, has only fallen short of a victory twice this season, both times against teams currently ranked stronger than the Eagles (5-1-1). Top-ranked Thunderbird defeated Flagstaff early in the season, 8-5, and Arcadia managed the draw.
Anna Harmon got an assist against Lee Williams, and Maya Shearon led the defense and help the Eagles limit attacks in the Friday win.
Home is the next stop for the Eagles, who will host another Grand Canyon club, the Bradshaw Mountain Bears, Tuesday at 3 p.m.
