The No. 23-seeded Coconino Panthers volleyball team was swept by the No. 10-seeded Mesquite Wildcats, 26-24, 25-19, 25-17, at Mesquite High School in Gilbert Thursday night.

The Panthers fell one game short of making the 4A Conference state tournament in dropping the road play-in match.

In her senior year, Sophie Sinek led the Panthers in kills while sophomore Brooke Parker led the team in assists and serving aces.

Coconino had a tough start to the year at just 1-5 through the first six regular-season matches, but the young Panthers squad responded by going 7-4 in the final 11 regular season matches.

Coconino finished the 2018 season at 16-17 overall when including tournament results and 6-6 in the Grand Canyon Region -- good for a fourth-place finish.
