A few missed shots inside in the final minutes proved too much to overcome for Northern Arizona, as the Lumberjacks lost 71-65 in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament final Thursday in Indiana.

With another game coming down to the final minutes, Northern Arizona pulled ahead 59-58 with 3:48 left off of two free throws from Jordyn Martin. But the Lumberjacks hit just 1 of 7 from the field to close out the game and the Purple Aces hit 5 of 7 take the CIT title.

Northern Arizona outrebounded Evansville 40-33, but the Purple Aces worked their way to the line to cancel out the Lumberjacks’ advantage. Evansville hit 20 of 27 from the line, topping Northern Arizona’s 13 of 16.

Evansville closed on a 7-0 run to end the first half, building up its biggest lead of the game, 29-21, going into the break. Egidijus Mockevicius gave Northern Arizona trouble in the first half, scoring 13 points and adding six rebounds.

With each team 0 of 5 from 3 in the first half, both teams scored most of their points inside. Behind Mockevicius, Evansville outscored Northern Arizona 18-16 in the paint. The Purple Aces also outrebounded the Lumberjacks 19-17 in the first half, with Len Springs and Martin each picking up two fouls during the first 20 minutes.

Northern Arizona struggled to get to the line early on, only attempting two free throws in the first half.
