Officials in Nevada say a key stretch of the main freeway between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City will be closed all weekend as part of a project to reshape a busy interchange serving the Las Vegas Strip. Interstate 15 will be shut down late Friday to early Monday to allow for demolition of a big overpass at Tropicana Avenue. The Nevada Department of Transportation says motorists will face detours between Flamingo and Russell roads. The department calls the 18-month project “Dropicana.” Designers say that when it's finished in mid-2025, the overpass will be higher and wider for traffic, and safer for pedestrians walking between some of the city’s biggest casino-hotels and venues including Allegiant Stadium and T-Mobile Arena.

Thailand is ushering in a new age of train travel with Southeast Asia’s biggest railway station. The government says the huge, modern development on the edge of central Bangkok will bolster the country’s position as a regional hub. Almost all of Thailand’s long-distance domestic and international rail services will pass through the new station, officially called Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, on which work began 10 years ago. But many Thais are lamenting the shunting aside of the previous terminal, Hua Lamphong Station on the edge of Bangkok’s Chinatown in the middle of the capital. But it will still host some local and eastern lines of the state railway.
