I support Propositions 419, 420 and 421 because investments in our community’s transportation needs benefit us all, whether we walk, drive, bike or ride the bus to where we want to go.
Proposition 419 is a continuation of the existing transportation tax. Revenue from 419 would fund complete streets and address safety issues and connectivity needs. Complete streets include sidewalks, bike lanes and travel lanes and support bus service. Proposition 419 includes a 45 percent increase in funding for bike and ped improvements yet the proposed tax rate is the same as the current rate.
Proposition 420 is for the Lone Tree overpass, a much needed connection between Route 66 and Butler for improved safety and greater efficiency. This would reduce the time spent idling at the tracks and would provide us with a close-by option whether we drive, bike or walk. The overpass would include bike lanes and sidewalks and would create a great connection to the FUTS on Route 66. 23 cents for every hundred dollars spent is a small investment for the benefits the Lone Tree overpass offers.
Proposition 421 is for increased frequency and service of our bus system. The community has shown support for Mountain Line in previous propositions and we see the result of that investment; ridership has increased exponentially and this helps to reduce congestion and parking demand.
Sustainability in transportation means providing mode options. I will vote YES on 419, 420 and 421 because I support solutions that improve all modes of travel.
