This letter is in response to the article, "Wage hike cuts into services for people with intellectual, developmental challenges."
The Legislature along with Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) needs to provide a fair reimbursement rate to the providers in the state. It is unrealistic to think that the providers will survive if they are not appropriately reimbursed for their services. We have already seen family units disrupted, services being stopped and levels of care being jeopardized. What will it take for the governor’s office and the legislatures to wake up? Not properly funding individuals entrusted by the state could be considered criminal.
Providers in the state have only been reimbursed 75 percent for years. Can your business or home operate on 75 percent? These are not individuals who can, for the most part, speak up and be heard on their own. Don’t let them suffer needlessly. It is unjust, unethical and immoral.
