The recent article in the Daily Sun about a city council candidate’s past mistakes is a reflection on restorative justice.

We have always been a country and a community that values second chances. Especially when the wrong-doer has accepted the legal consequences and worked to right the wrong through community service and living an honorable life.

The Navajo culture recognizes Hozho; restoring balance and harmony. As a community, I am hopeful we judge a person by the sum of his or her life, how the person handled them self during times of adversity and how the individual restored balance and harmony.
