I am grateful for our democratic form of government and a nation built on constitutional guarantees of civil rights. These essential principles include: transparency (assuring accountability of government officials); the checks and balances of our three branches of government (meaning that the president must not obstruct Congress in its pursuit of justice); and preventing any interference by foreign governments in our own elections and political affairs (going all the way back to the Monroe Doctrine).
The impeachment proceedings against the president focus on all three of these principles. To be fully accountable to the U.S. public, these hearings must include full disclosure and evaluation of the president’s behavior regarding Ukraine and Russia. Please join me in calling or writing to Senators McSally and Sinema urging that they require the examination of witnesses and relevant documents, as they uphold their oath to “do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws.”
