I would like to take this time to say thank you to the current and past Mayor and City Council. You have all done such a wonderful job of bringing big business to Flagstaff, as well as bringing low paying jobs. The most important contribution you have made, however, is the destruction of Flagstaff neighborhoods. You have done exceptionally well at dissolving any sense of community our beautiful town had left.
And now, just as in the last 20 years, again you are trying to figure out how to handle this! When a building lot alone starts at $125,000 and the cost of building a two-room stick house starts are $110,000, not many people in Flagstaff can afford this!
The people of Flagstaff need their voices heard. It is my feeling that we, the citizens of Flagstaff, need to take a little control back. It is time for a change in government structure. I would love to see a full-time mayor, elected at large, a full-time counsel, elected by district, and the abolishment of the city manager position by transferring those duties to the mayor. That way we, as the voting public, would have the opportunity every two years to make sure our mayor is doing what most of us taxpayers and voters would like to see done or be voted out.
In closing, the one thing that would help our city more than anything is to go back to our old rules and regulations where there is no “supermajority” of the vote count in order to get anything done.

Thank you all, sincerely, from the “Mayor of Sunnyside.”
