I agree that Buffalo Park is the best, most accessible dark-ish astronomical observing site within the city of Flagstaff, and promoting more of this usage is a great idea. An observing area should be designated, and it would make sense to try to reduce nearby light sources consistent with Flagstaff's Lighting Ordinances. Star gazing should be a primary usage of Buffalo Park, and other measures to further support and promote this activity are possible in the future.
The buffalo at the park entrance may seem irrelevant and out of place, but it was not always so. This was once an open-air zoo and among the animals on display was a small herd of American Bison. The buffalo at the entrance is the last link to the zoo that once operated here and I think he has earned the right to stay. Besides, I rather enjoy his quirky nature.
