Even as just an occasional user of our beautiful Buffalo Park, I find myself in full agreement with Messrs. Nelson and Seven regarding their comments about the buffalo statue at the entrance of the park (AZ Daily Sun 2/24/19).

As a city that prides itself on its great location, scenery and love of art and science, this fixture really does not fit with that image. Apart from the fact that buffalo are not native to this part of Arizona, the statue comes across as tacky and kitschy, more suitable to Disneyland than our fair city.

If we must have a “buffalo” theme, why not replace it with a real work of art, maybe even a bronze statue of a buffalo or, better still, a magnificent elk we so admire in our natural surroundings?
