School was out early last Wednesday, the weather was warm, the snow was nearly melted. It seemed like a great day to go play a round of disc golf at Thorpe Park with my son.
At the first hole, glass shards littered the ground. At hole 2, a chunk of broken bottle lay with its jagged edges waiting to injure someone who wasn’t paying attention. More trash and glass at hole 3 and so on all the way through the course. I saw a trash can mid-course and picked up some trash. If my son were younger, I would have been worried about him tripping and falling on the broken glass.
Why does the course look so trashy? Why isn’t there better maintenance of our recreational facilities? Is it because our City Council is too busy directing city resources and staff time towards resolutions that have nothing to do with running the city? Maybe they could direct some of that money they are paying to make sure city investments match their political ideology and send a few people over to Thorpe Park to clean up the glass.
