Victim Witness Services confirmed the death of Hollie Vargas, a sexual violence victim advocate.

Victim Witness Services director Jen Runge confirmed Vargas’s death in a Facebook post on Monday. Vargas worked to serve children and adult victims of sexual violence. She was named the Coconino County Response Team advocate of the year in 2013.

“None of us were expecting the sudden death of Hollie,” Runge wrote in her post. “While we are shocked and filled with grief, we know that she would want us to celebrate her life.”

Victim Witness Services is holding an evening of remembrance Tuesday, April 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Flagstaff Police Department office. The event will be held in the department's conference room at 911 East Sawmill Road.
