To the editor: As a property owner in Flagstaff who rents my property to winter seasonal guests, I am troubled by the problems facing winter recreation visitors using Highway 180 heading south. Public officials need to fess up and solve the problem or else all of us who stand to benefit from the multitude of visitors from Phoenix and elsewhere will suffer greatly. With snowmaking at Snowbowl on the horizon, this problem will only get worse.

How many times do you think visitors will endure 3-hour traffic nightmares before saying, forget it, three hours in traffic is not worth it. That means all the money that these people spend in Flagstaff, a portion of which goes to the city, is lost.

Public officials, get the job done and the city will benefit along with merchants, hotels and support services. Sometimes you need to spend money to make money.
