Alcohol often behind child neglect

"Child neglect" is the name of the news piece. Perhaps it should be labeled what it is: "Alcohol addiction leads to bad parenting."

That is just one of the many stories of unwritten misery caused by alcohol addiction here in Flagstaff. Then, a previous edition listed more alcohol licenses for businesses on the horizon. Yum! Perhaps soon, like smoking, it will be allowed everywhere. Except, oh, I forgot: Smoking is now taxed to almost nonexistence and so expensive one needs to take out a loan for a pack of cigarettes.

But back to the alcohol story. How many lives have been impacted by alcohol? How many homes have been broken and how many small children see alcohol as a way out to soothe a misery? How many suicides are there from alcohol? I did a research paper on that rate some years ago and it was sad to read the notes and realize the victim could not see a way out and alcohol was a mitigating factor.

Funny how we take things for granted until it impacts our family and lives. And please label a story with its real cause. Perhaps that will bring up more awareness and resistance.
