Mather Point in Winter

Despite cold weather, tourists fill the observation area at Mather Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon National Park has identified the woman who fell to her death in the park on Tuesday, April 23.

Cynthia Ackley, 69, from Peoria, Arizona, died after falling from a rocky point west of the Pipe Creek Vista. A park helicopter and technical rescue team recovered Ackley's body later Tuesday afternoon.

The fall from the rim was the second such death in the national park this year, making four total fatalities at the Grand Canyon since March 26. Another fatal fall occurred near the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which is owned and operated by the Hualapai tribe near Grand Canyon West. And, an individual identified only as an international male was found dead in a forested area above the South Rim.
