Man declared dead after being caught on fire

The Flagstaff Police Department is investigating the area where a man was declared dead after he was found on fire on Monday afternoon.

At 3:30 p.m., an officer arrived at the scene behind the east side Family Dollar at 3494 East Route 66, where he found Ben Iravani, 66, on fire. Iravani was pronounced dead after the fire was extinguished, a Flagstaff Police Department media release stated.

The department is not releasing the manner and cause of death until the completion of an investigation by the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing. Flagstaff Police Department asks that the public contact them with any information on this case at (928)-774-1414 or call Silent Witness at (928) 774-6111.

The Flagstaff Police Department has not responded to requests for comment.
