The 2018 Arizona Outdoor Expo is March 24 and 25 at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility off Carefree Highway and includes archery lessons for young and old.

The Outdoor Expo is being held March 24 and 25 at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix just west of I-17 on the Carefree Highway. That makes it an easy trip from Flagstaff.

The Expo drew close to 50,000 participants last year. I use the term participant because you can certainly participate if you choose or just spectate, but why?

Admission and parking are free and once there, besides a variety of good food, the real fun spans the gamut and is a little more active than eating a great burger or burrito.

You and the kids can learn target archery, go fishing, paddle a kayak on Lake Paddlemore and shoot a variety of firearms.

You can watch cowboy action shooters, clay target shooters, black powder, air gun and even mounted cowboy shooting.

You will learn about all-terrain vehicles, get your picture taken with a bird of prey or a Gila monster or perhaps a snake if that is more to your liking.

Learn about Dutch oven cooking, quail hunting, wildlife tracking and game management and reptiles of all sorts.

Have a question about boating, there are experts on hand to answer all your questions.

There is even a hike you can go on where you will learn about field craft and camping.

There are over 150 exhibitors, numerous conservation groups, government agencies as well as commercial vendors of outdoor gear.

There is even an auction of Game and Fish Department wildlife assets. This includes wildlife mounts donated to the department, useable parts like antlers from animals hit and killed by vehicles and others like mounts seized during law enforcement activities.

Many of the food vendors only take cash so be prepared for that.

It is just a fun day with never a dull moment, and did I mention there is no entry or parking fee?

This is a great family event and the fun begins both days at 9 a.m.
