Lee Olson 1950-2017
Lee Olson was born in Oshkosh, NE into a farming family. She credited the independence, self-reliance, and ambition of her ancestors as formative influences.
Lee had 66 wonderful years filled with adventures, challenges, laughter and love. Her life included the opportunity to excel at what she did both professionally and personally. She wisely retired early from a long successful career at Gore to spend time with her family and play with her dogs.
Lee was a nurturer, of plants, dogs, people, and especially her beloved children, grandchildren, and husband, Steve Welsh. She created a homestead that was a welcoming refuge to family, friends, and foster dogs alike – complete with cuttings from her grandmother’s garden! She loved helping living things flourish and grow.
From welding to dog training to river running, Lee was always learning more and doing better. She was not sentimental – Lee called a spade a spade – but her words and especially her example inspired those she loved.
Her family and friends remember her as practical, strong, smart, generous, and funny. We will aspire to live up to her legacy by sharing our knowledge, encouraging others, and challenging ourselves, whether it is planting roses, driving a rescue transport, or welding a gate.
