JOHN D. ODDY
June 4, 1931 – October 24, 2017
John Oddy, beloved husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from lung cancer. His physical presence on this earth will be missed, but he left his memories in all who knew him. His laughter – it was so contagious! His generosity – it knew no boundaries.
John was born June 4, 1931, in Saranac Lake, New York. He was the youngest of seven children, and his parents were Nathaniel Oddy, born in Brighton, England, and Annie MacLeod Oddy, born in Portree, Isle of Skye, Scotland. The family is proud to say that John was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife: Kristin; children: Scott, Garret, Heather Horton (Chris), Jenna; grandchildren: Ryan (Ruth), Briana, Nicole, Christina, Shelby, Amanda, Sophie, Greg Horton (Myra), Daniel Horton; and great-grandchildren: William and Brayden. He is also survived by many others who considered him to be their dad and/or grandpa – he always had love to share.
Please think of John often and remember his joy for life! He would not have wanted anyone to mourn his passing, but to rejoice in the gifts he gave everyone he touched while on this earth.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held in Flagstaff, at the Woodlands Village Self-Storage facility, where he worked faithfully for the past 21 years, 1425 W. Forest Meadows, on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. If attending, please come with a story you wish to share with his family about John’s kindness and laughter, and wear a shirt and/or colors representing the Dodgers, USC or the Philadelphia Eagles – John’s favorite teams. If you unable to attend, and would like to share a memorable time you had with John, please send your story to the Woodlands Village Self-Storage facility. We would love to read it to the family.
