John (Jack) Robert Jocz passed away in Flagstaff, Arizona on October 30th , 2018 following a short illness. Jack was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Ignatius and Dorothy Jocz. Jack grew up in Southern California where he met his wife of 45 years, Marilyn. He is survived by his daughters Jennifer Jocz and Wendy Hunter, son-in-law Ken Hunter, and grandchildren Colin and Carlie Hunter. Jack is also survived by his sister Dollie (Hector) Serenil and brother David (Marian) Jocz.
Jack proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966-1969, both on the dangerous riverboats with the Brown Water Navy in Vietnam and on the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard working in communications. He served his country well and will be remembered always as a patriot. He then worked for 40 years as a technical manager for Pacific Bell, SBC, and AT&T. Jack loved spending time outdoors, hiking, camping, skiing at various resorts and traveling with Marilyn and his family. Seldom was Jack without his beloved Nikon cameras. He loved capturing and sharing photos of the world around him.
Of all his successes, Jack was proudest of his family. Marilyn, Jen, Wendy and his grandchildren Colin and Carlie were his heart and soul. He was always willing to drive to Jen's house in California to help her with home improvement projects. Wendy remembers his unselfishness with his time in helping her reach her goals. He was a loving grandfather who enjoyed taking his grandchildren to the movies, attending their many sporting events, and even being the "official" photographer for their soccer and snowboarding teams.
Jack had many wonderful friends of all ages. One special memory of Jack was recently shared with his family. "You guys have had such a wonderful adventurous life together, especially in retirement. We are all better for knowing him all these years, with his gentle spirit and true love for his family." Jack will truly be missed.
