Seven home matches highlight the recently released 2019 Northern Arizona women’s soccer schedule.
The Lumberjacks will tune up for the 18-game regular-season slate with an exhibition match at Grand Canyon University on Friday, Aug. 16, in Phoenix. This is the first season the women are playing under new head coach Kylie Louw, and the team will get the regular season started with back-to-back road games in New York at Army and Iona.
Northern Arizona will open the home portion of the 2019 slate on Sunday, Sept. 1, with Detroit Mercy at Lumberjack Stadium for a 1 p.m. start.
“We are very excited about our challenging schedule this season,” Louw said. “We look forward to getting a great gauge of where we are as a team, and it’ll allow us to push ourselves to perform and develop against quality opponents. Our schedule ensures that we are forced to overcome adversity and face obstacles before our conference games start -- which will give our players the tools and experience they’ll need moving forward to meet our goals for the 2019 season.”
Following the home opener the Jacks will venture on their longest road trip of the season -- five games. Northern Arizona will begin the trip with a pair of games in California at USC and Pacific before closing with matches at New Mexico, UNLV and New Mexico State.
The Lumberjacks will close out the nonconference schedule at home with a showdown against the University of Houston on Friday, Sept. 27, and will follow with the Big Sky Conference opener two days later at Lumberjack Stadium versus Southern Utah.
Northern Arizona continues the nine-match conference slate a week later with a pair of road games at Sacramento State and Portland State.
The 2019 Big Sky Conference Championship is scheduled for Nov. 6-10 in Greeley, Colorado, on the campus of the University of Northern Colorado. The Lumberjacks have captured the conference title three times in the program’s history (2014, 2009, 2008) and have qualified for the conference’s postseason event in each of the past three seasons.
