Not too far removed from her collegiate career with Northern Arizona track and field, former Lumberjacks hammer throw standout Brooke Andersen took second place in the event at the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru, on Saturday.
Andersen, 23, landed a 71.07-meter throw on her first attempt for her best of the day. Gwendolyn Berry, also representing the United States in the women's hammer throw, hit a 74.62m mark on her sixth and final throw for the title.
Berry recorded a 72.88m toss on her fifth try, and went on to best herself before the day ended.
Andersen graduated from Norther Arizona in 2018 as arguably the program's most accomplished thrower, picking up her second straight national runner-up finish in the hammer throw in her season year with the Lumberjacks.
