Northern Arizona men's basketball head coach Jack Murphy is leaving the program for the associate head coaching position at his alma mater, the University of Arizona.

Shane Burcar, who spent just one season as an assistant on Murphy's staff after a long high school coaching career at Mesa High School, will be the interim head coach heading into next season. It is unclear what the rest of the Northern Arizona coaching staff will look like after former associate head coach Wes Pifer left the program a few weeks ago for the head coaching job at Western Oregon.

Any incoming freshmen who enrolled in a summer course can now transfer out of the program without having to sit out a year, per NCAA rules.

Murphy ends his career in Flagstaff with a 78-149 record in seven years as the head coach. His teams won over 10 games in a season just three times.

It won't take Northern Arizona long to face its former head coach, as the Lumberjacks travel to Tucson to face Arizona on Nov. 6.
