The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the body of a missing New Mexico man was found earlier this month.
Craig Cavanaugh, 44, was reported missing to the Farmington Police Department in New Mexico on July 5th. He was last seen in Farmington on July 4th, reportedly heading to Peoria Arizona for a job but never arrived.
Cavanaugh’s credit cards were used by three men in Payson, Glendale and Peoria between July 5 and July 7, and his phone last pinged in Payson on July 4th. Additionally, Cavanaugh’s 2012 Toyota Tacoma was recovered in New Mexico on July 12.
A tip received by Farmington police said Cavanaugh may be found just outside Forest Lakes and notified the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. A limited search of the area based on the information did not find anything. An investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies, including Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and Farmington police, determined the men using the credit cards were not considered suspects in the disappearance.
Detectives identified two suspects who were believed to be with Cavanaugh in Payson on July 4, and interviewed one of them. The information provided led law enforcement to a wooded area just off of Highway 260 near Heber where a body was found Aug. 5. Fingerprints later identified the body as Cavanaugh.
