The 2A Conference Spartans baseball team made quick work of Central Region opponent Valley Lutheran in Phoenix Friday, routing the Flames 21-0 in a game called after three innings.
Northland Prep's Jacob Marquez threw all three innings for the win, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out five batters. The Flames' lone hit came on a close call as a ball in from center field came up just short at first base.
Northland Prep (3-1, 2-0 Central) recorded 20 RBIs on 16 hits and had eight stolen bases, with Connor Barta and Jack Berger contributing two each. Barta finished his 3-for-3 day with a double and a team-leading four RBIs, and the Spartans scored eight runs in the second inning after putting up two in the first.
Joshua Richey came off the Spartans bench and went 1 for 2 with a three-run double. Jacob Marquez, Silas Marquez and Tristyn Pfeil added three RBIs apiece. Pfeil was 2 for 4 with a triple.
The Spartans will look to fit in a ballgame before spring break when they play the 2A Tempe Prep Knights today at Valley Christian High School.
The 4A Flagstaff Eagles didn't let a detour deter them from winning their first Grand Canyon Region game of the season on Thursday.
Makenna Snodgrass pitched a solid complete game, Shea Wilson had a three-run home run and the Eagles (2-2, 1-1 Grand Canyon) rolled the Prescott Badgers 17-5 at Heritage Park. Flagstaff got word mid-trip that the playing location and time switched from Prescott High School to Heritage Park.
Flagstaff got four RBIs from Monica Encinas. The later innings were really productive for the Eagles, including a nine-run sixth.
The Eagles pick up the season after spring break on Tuesday, March 26. They are slated to host the Mohave Thunderbirds as they continue playing region ballgames.
