The Northland Prep Spartans are rolling into spring break.

Connor Barta recorded four RBIs for the second consecutive game, Zach Tweed pitched five effective innings and the Spartans won a 2A Conference ballgame, 8-4, over the Tempe Prep Knights Saturday in the Valley, collecting a second straight win in as many days.

Bartan finished his day at the plate 2 for 4 with a run scored and a double, and Tweed added to his cause with a 1-for-3 day that included one RBI and one run scored.

Jack Berger pitched the final two innings for the Spartans, who will head into spring break with a 4-1 regular-season record. Three unearned runs and three hits came against Berger, who was able to shut down a Knights team looking to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Northland Prep scored four in the second, and two runs in each the top of the fifth and seventh frames. Tweed threw five innings, giving up one earned run on six hits. He had nine strikeouts and issued two walks.

Dawson Messick was also 2 for 4 and added two runs scored for the Spartans, who totaled eight hits. Northland Prep extend its extra-base-hit streak to three straight games as Skyler Pfeil also connected for a double Saturday.

Northland Prep is schedule to pick back up the regular season on Tuesday, March 25, with an highly anticipated home opener against Camp Verde. First pitch is set for 3:45 at Sinagua Middle School.

Flagstaff allowed three runs in the fourth and was stalled after scoring one run in the second in a loss Saturday to hosting Prescott.

It was the first Grand Canyon Region loss for the 4A Eagles, who had a five-game win streak snapped by a hard-hitting Badgers team that increased its victory streak to three games.

Flagstaff moved to 5-1 and 2-1 in the region.

The Eagles will be on the road against Mohave, Tuesday, March 26 after spring break.
