The Flagstaff Eagles girls basketball team couldn't pull a thorn from its side Friday at the Gator Winter Classic, falling to a team that beat them before in the annual tournament held at Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nevada.

After going 3-0 in pool play, the Eagles lost to Dimond (Anchorage, Alaska), 62-51, despite the best performance from Emma Doskicz yet in the tourney. The junior drilled eight 3-pointers for all of her team-high 24 points.

The loss knocked Flagstaff out of bracket play. Two years ago at the tourney, the Eagles lost to the Lynx, 70-36.

Alissa Pili, who is set to play hoops in college for the USC Trojans, paced the Lynx with a game-high 37 points. Dimond scored 18 points in the game's first two quarters to take a 36-25 lead into halftime.

Gracelyn Nez recorded 14 points for Flagstaff, her fourth game of the tournament going for double-digit scoring. Sheridan Edgewater added five points, and Breonna Curtis and Hailey Armus each had three.

Flagstaff will play Yale of Canada Saturday.
