The Contentment Little League 9- through 11-year-old All-Stars used a three-run fifth inning to break a tie with their crosstown rivals, West Flagstaff, and held on Monday night in Winslow, 8-5.

Brody Johnson had a 1-2-3 top of the sixth to lock the win for CLL, ending his night with 3 1/3 innings pitched to go with five strikeouts, two hits allowed and no walks issued. Trey Parker started on the mound for the victors and also tallied five strikeouts.

"We've waited a long time for tonight's game -- as we knew it would be a real test of what we've become," said CLL manager Jeff Johnson. "We know most of those kids and they are incredibly talented. Our kids all played roles in a total team effort. Trey and Brody pitched lights out and our role players came through when we absolutely needed them. It feels great to get that win."

Landon Stewart scored Parker on a single to reach the final score, and he finished 1 for 3 at the plate with a run scored and the lone RBI. Abiu Chairez and Collin Peace each had two RBIs for CLL, which matched WFLL's eight hits.

WFLL tied the game in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice groundout from Jace Adams that scored Fitz Guinan.

With the win CLL won the Area One tournament and will advance to districts. Meanwhile, WFLL will play today at 6 p.m. for a chance at making the district bracket.

WFLL dominated Holbrook on Saturday to meet up with CLL. In that 18-0 win, Willie Akens was 2 for 2 with an inside-the-park home run and five RBIs. Will Carpenter, Caleb Begay and DJ Faust combined to throw a 4-inning no-hitter in the run-rule win.
