Five finalists named for county manager

Interim Coconino County Manager Mike Townsend is among the five finalists for the permanent appointment as county manager.

The public can meet the candidates at a reception on Monday, June 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Little America Hotel.

Attendees will also be allowed to offer comments and input on the candidates.

According to a county press release, the other finalists are:

-- Gila County Interim Finance Director Dana Paul Hlavac. Prior to moving to Gila County, Hlavac worked four years as deputy county manager for Mohave County in Kingman.

-- Morgan County, Ga. Manager Michael Lamar. He previously served as city manager for Trenton, Fla., from 1999 to June 2005.

-- Cynthia Seelhammer, of Queen Creek, who served as deputy city manager in Phoenix between 2006 and March 2010. More recently, she has been a Globe interim city manager and an interim manager at the City of Maricopa and the Town of Tusayan

-- Humboldt County, Calif. Administrative Officer Phillip Smith-Hanes has held that county's top appointed administrative job since December 2009. Previously he was a deputy and an assistant county administrative officer.

-- Mike Townsend has served as interim Coconino County manager since November 2011, and has worked at the county for 13 years, including as deputy county manager and as chief fiscal officer. From 1995 to 2000, Townsend worked as the finance and budget manager for the city of Flagstaff.
