Police are looking for the public's help finding a man who raped a woman after offering her a ride home from downtown in the early morning hours Friday.
According to information from police, instead of driving the woman home, the man drove her down Lone Tree Road toward the area of Coconino Community College. He stopped in the trailhead parking lot at Lone Tree Road and J.W. Powell Boulevard and attacked the woman.
Police say the man assaulted her sexually and physically. The man fled the scene after the attack and the victim was able to call police. She suffered numerous bruises and abrasions during the attack.
"We have a predator out there and we need to find him," said Deputy Chief Dan Musselman of the Flagstaff Police Department. "Indications are that she did not know her attacker."
The victim told investigators that she had been at Collins Irish Pub and left at about 1 a.m. It's not clear where the victim was when she was offered a ride home. Detectives were investigating the assault throughout Friday.

Musselman said police hope someone might have seen a car parked in the area of the trailhead between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Friday morning, or that someone might have seen the suspect in downtown.
The man is described as a heavyset, Native American male between 25 and 30 years of age. He had 2-inch-long, spiked hair.
Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Flagstaff Police Department at 774-1414, or Detective Todd Bishop at 679-4058.
