Former city council candidate Paul Deasy on Friday shook up the race for Flagstaff mayor when he announced his candidacy for the position.

Deasy ran for a seat on Flagstaff City Council in 2018, narrowly losing to Councilmember Regina Salas for the third and final spot.

Deasy joins current Councilmembers Jamie Whelan and Charlie Odegaard in the mayoral race.

In running for mayor, Deasy told the Arizona Daily Sun he hopes to offer Flagstaff voters a new and different voice and an alternative to what he sees as the status quo offered by Whelan and Odegaard.

“I think we need fresh ideas at the helm,” Deasy said.

For a full story on Deasy’s announcement, see tomorrow's Arizona Daily Sun.
