A Flagstaff man was killed after being run over in the parking lot of a local Mexican restaurant near midnight on Wednesday, Flagstaff Police Department authorities report.

Richard Ratcliff, 53, was run over outside of the Riliberto’s Fresh Mexican Food Restaurant at 3666 E. Route 66 near 1 a.m. The driver reportedly did not see Ratcliff before the incident happened, and is currently not facing any charges.

A witness behind the driver's truck in the drive-thru line saw Ratcliff leave the restaurant and step off the sidewalk into the side of the driver's truck as it moved forward.

The witness told authorities that Ratcliff fell beneath the truck's back rear tire on the left side of the vehicle. Charles Hernandez, spokesman for the Flagstaff Police Department, said he did not know what part of Ratcliff's body was run over by the vehicle.

Ratcliff was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center with serious injuries, and was later declared dead at the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is not currently facing charges, although the investigation is still ongoing. Hernandez said due to where the man walked into the vehicle, it would be hard to allege the driver of the vehicle could have avoided the crash.

"It happened on the side toward the rear. That's why it's still under investigation, so we can determine any facts for the cause of the crash," Hernandez said.
