Northern Arizona drivers traveling on Interstate 40 past Winslow should allow more travel time while the Arizona Department of Transportation begins new bridge improvements in the area.

State construction crews are removing and replacing portions of the westbound I-40 Cottonwood Wash bridge as well as the roads leading up to it.

Work on the eastbound I-40 bridge was completed a year ago, according to a media release.

The project on the bridge, which is about 5 miles east of Winslow from milepost 259 to 260, is expected to be complete by late 2019.

Because of the project, westbound traffic in the area will be temporarily realigned to one of the eastbound lanes.

Speed limits through the work zone will be reduced to 55 mph and a 12-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.
