Death on westbound I-40

Arizona Department of Public Safety reported a death occurred after a crash on the westbound I-40 near the I-17 junction morning Thursday.

A car collision between a pickup truck and commercial truck left one person dead and caused extended road closures on the westbound I-40 Thursday morning, the Arizona Department of Public Safety reported.

The crash between the trucks happened in the early morning hours shortly after 7 a.m. Serious injuries were initially reported by safety officials, but it is not clear at this point how many people may have been injured in the crash.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed the highway for three hours on the westbound I-40 at the I-17 junction. The highways were reopened at 10 a.m.

The ramp from the I-17 northbound to I-40 westbound was closed by transportation officials because of the crash, and was routed through the I-17 southbound and Milton Road northbound.
