The Coconino County Sheriff's Office's DUI taskforce arrested three drivers for driving under the influence over the night of New Year's Eve and the following morning.

James Steng, a member of Sheriff's Office, said they had arrested six drivers the previous year, but felt that the winter likely kept people inside or off the road.

They saw a lot of taxis, Uber and Lyft drivers and made contact with more than 40 drivers throughout the night that were driving sober. Officers took the reduction in arrests as a good sign.

"In my eyes and the sheriff's office eyes, it is outstanding," Steng said. "It's amazing and we're glad to see."

Steng explained that the Flagstaff Police Department and Northern Arizona University Police Department did not participate as they were dealing with the snowstorm.
