A Colorado man charged with the murder of a couple in Williams in May has been successfully extradited.
Derrick Barnett was transported to Coconino County Detention Facility on Monday after Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado signed a Governor’s Warrant allowing Barnett to be transferred to Arizona to face two counts of first-degree murder.
The Governor’s Warrant was necessary after Barnett refused to waive his right to extradition.
Barnett allegedly killed Mike and Nora Dimuria in their Red Lakes home.
He was arrested in Dolores County, Colo., on May 6 and was being held in Montezuma County to face outstanding warrants in Colorado regarding abuse of his former girlfriend, Breawna Wilkins.
Barnett is originally from Grand Junction.
The case is now in the hands of the Coconino County Attorney’s Office, which — with a successful extradition — is now responsible for prosecuting the case.
