A tour bus carrying country music singer and songwriter Hardy and three others was involved in a crash that injured everyone on board. Hardy said on social media that all four people on the bus were treated for “significant injuries” suffered in the crash as they headed home from a Saturday night show in Bristol, Tennessee, News outlets reported the bus overturned on Interstate 40 West near Nashville early Sunday, Hardy said he had been released from the hospital, but he was ordered by doctors to focus on recovering over the next few weeks. The musician asked for prayers for the bus driver, who was still hospitalized. Hardy was the 2022 Academy of Country Music Songwriter of the Year.

The actor and activist who declined Marlon Brando’s 1973 Academy Award for “The Godfather” on his behalf in an indelible protest of how Native Americans had been portrayed on screen has died. Sacheen Littlefeather was 75.  Her niece confirmed that Littlefeather died peacefully Sunday, surrounded by loved ones at her California home. The family said the cause was breast cancer. Littlefeather’s appearance at the 1973 Oscars would become one of the ceremony’s most famous moments. Clad in buckskin dress and moccasins, Littlefeather spoke in support of the then-ongoing occupation at Wounded Knee, the American Indian Movement’s weekslong protest in South Dakota.

The U.S. Interior Department has launched a set of new policies that would require thousands of law enforcement officers to wear body cameras, ensures the release of footage in some critical incidents and restricts the use of so-called no-knock warrants. The announcement Monday comes after Interior Secretary Deb Haaland launched a task force last year aimed at further building trust between law enforcement and the public. It also follows an executive order from President Joe Biden that focused on federal law enforcement agencies and required them to review and revise policies on use of force.

A trip by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to Singapore over the weekend to watch Formula One races has come under attack from critics who described it as “utterly callous” while thousands of Filipinos remain displaced due to a recent typhoon. Marcos Jr. confirmed his trip to Singapore for the Grand Prix event in a brief statement and pictures he posted on Facebook after a flurry of online criticism. He says he was invited with other dignitaries and met new business friends who were willing to invest in the Philippines. Reports had circulated on social media about his unannounced trip. His press secretary did not issue a confirmation until after a Singaporean official posted pictures of Marcos Jr. in the city-state on Facebook.

An Arizona man is facing federal charges that he tampered with evidence after he was arrested on a highway with young girls in an enclosed trailer. Samuel Bateman was indicted this month on three counts of destroying records and tampering with criminal proceedings. He pleaded not guilty Thursday in federal magistrate court in Flagstaff. A judge ordered that he remain behind bars while the case continues. A state police agency arrested Bateman in Flagstaff in late August after someone spotted small fingers through a gap in the trailer's rear door. Bateman has pleaded not guilty to child abuse charges in that case.
