Roger Clay Thweatt passed away June 4, 2019 peacefully while in Hospice in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 89 years old. Roger was born in Shreveport, LA to Henry and Thelma Thweatt. He graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1948 and married Eunice Holland in 1950. He served 4 years in the Army as a First Lieutenant.

Roger taught at Western State College in Gunnison for two years then at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ for 26 years where he was Emeritus Professor of Psychology. He received a BA from the University of Denver, an MA from Montana State University and a Ph.D from Michigan State University. He holds the Diplomate in Psychology from the American Psychological Association and is listed in Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in American Education and American Men of Science. He authored Ghost Town Sites Along Boreas Pass, The Psychology of Fitness, Mental Health in Arizona as well as numerous scientific articles in psychology.

In addition to his professional activities, he canoed a thousand miles of the Yukon River, hiked the Chilkoot Trail in Alaska, and hiked 1,200 miles in the Grand Canyon. He was a retired PSIA certified nordic and telemark ski instructor. His passions included skiing, hiking and jeeping to Colorado ghost towns and mining camp sites. He lived in Breckenridge with his wife, Alice, since 1989.

Dr. Thweatt is survived by his wife, Alice, his first wife, Eunice Holland Fenchak, his sons, Steven and David, his daughter, Karen Beshai, his step-daughter, Kim Collins, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will celebrate his life and spread his ashes in the mountains above Breckenridge in late August.
