Carl Mark Shoaff, 71, of Flagstaff AZ, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, July 16th, 2019. He was born in Bemidji, MN, on February 22nd, 1948, to Truman Henry Shoaff III and his wife Delayne Dahlberg Shoaff. His sister and best friend, Christine Shoaff, was born on July 18th, 1950.

Carl grew up happily with his sister Christine in Grand Rapids, MN, where he attended elementary and high school before enlisting. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1971, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN, where he studied Residential Drafting and Estimating. This would lead to a career spanning over 45 years in carpentry and contracting; he was an exceptionally talented and passionate craftsman and draftsman.

Carl married Nancy Callista Schirber on June 27th, 1987, in Grand Rapids, MN. They started their family in Flagstaff with the birth of their daughter, Paige Callista Shoaff, on May 11th, 1990. His son, Truman Walker Shoaff, completed the family on August 10th, 1993.

Carl was a loving father and was incredibly proud of his children and their accomplishments. Both Paige and Truman are NAU graduates: Paige serves the community as a social worker for Coconino County; Truman served in the U.S. Navy and works in the field of adaptive outdoor recreation.

Carl loved his family, his friends, his work, and his dog. He was deeply contented with his life, and simply spending time with all the loved ones in it brought him the greatest joy. He was a profoundly gentle, and kindhearted man. His patient and easy nature was a pillar of stability for everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother Delayne Shoaff; aunts Jenny and Micheline Shoaff; cousins Caroline Zimmerman, and Marion Kay Deckman; his father Truman Shoaff III; his Uncle Victor Shoaff; and his second wife Larisa Aukon.

He is survived by: his sister Christine Shoaff and her children Amelia, Anna, and Zane; great-nephews Cayden Brown and Carter Mayes; his first wife Nan Shoaff, and their children Paige and Truman Shoaff; adopted sister and dear friend Erika Greene; uncles John and William Shoaff; aunts Paige Shoaff, Marlene Peterson, and Karen Thomas; many Dahlberg cousins; and his beloved dog Mali.

An Open House to celebrate his life is planned at his home for Saturday, July 27th, 1pm-4pm.
