Kenton "Factor" Grua, 52, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, from injuries sustained in a mountain biking accident on lower Schultz Creek Trail.
Mr. Grua was born on July 25, 1950, in Utah and began working as a Colorado River guide through the Grand Canyon in 1969. He lived the past 13 years in Arizona.
Throughout the years, he has worked for several guide companies. For the past 30 years, he worked for the Grand Canyon Dories.
Mr. Grua was founder and past-president of the Grand Canyon River Guides and had a true love and passion for the Canyon.
Mr. Grua loved the outdoors. When he was not running the river, he enjoyed mountain biking, singing, playing his guitar and spending time with those he loved.
Mr. Grua is survived by his wife, Michelle Starr Grua; step-children Sean Scott, Evan Scott and Erin Scott, all of Flagstaff; mother Nancy Grua of Vernal, Utah; brothers Corey Grua of Houston and Cliff Grua of Vernal.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at a time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Kenton "Factor" Grua to Grand Canyon River Guides (G.C.R.G.), P.O. Box 1934, Flagstaff, AZ, 86002.
