New Jersey is the last state to ban self-service gas stations in all of its jurisdictions.

What state has the highest and lowest tax on gasoline? How does yours compare?

Data compiled by the U.S. Energy Information Administration from July 2019 shows California with the highest gas tax at $.61 per gallon. If you're driving in Alaska, you are paying the lowest gas prices, at $.15 per gallon. 

The average tax rate for standard gasoline is $.36 per gallon and $.37 per gallon for diesel. Use the search to find out more details about gas pricing in your state or others.
