A slice of Sedona has moved into Flagstaff.
Famous Pizza from Sedona opened a new location in downtown Flagstaff on Route 66 in October.
Bryan Buysse, one of the managers at the new pizza shop, said he’s already had a few students from Northern Arizona University who used to live in Sedona and were excited about finding their favorite pizza shop in Flagstaff. One student said Famous was his favorite place to eat lunch in high school and he hoped to continue the tradition in Flagstaff.
Famous specializes in pizza by the pie and the slice, subs, Buffalo-style chicken wings, salads and craft brews from around the country, he said. All of the ingredients that go into making the pizzas, subs and other foods are fresh. The dough for the pizzas is made daily and the rolls for the subs are made in house. Toppings for subs and pizzas are sliced and diced in house and the sauces are also made fresh.
Some crowd favorites from the pizza menu include the Buddha Beach and the Great White Buffalo. The Buddha Beach includes mozzarella, pesto, chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes and feta cheese. The Great White Buffalo has chicken tossed in buffalo sauce, spinach, red onions and blue cheese. You can also build your own pizza using the wide selection of fresh toppings Famous has on hand.
The pizza parlor carries draft craft brews from independent breweries from around the country and several from Flagstaff breweries. The list of brews changes regularly but customers can check to see if their favorite is on tap by using the smartphone app Untappd. The app lets customers rate and review beers, learn more about the brewery and see what’s on tap at local pubs and restaurants like Famous. Famous also fills growlers.
Among the subs, the Italian and the meatball & sausage subs are some of the favorites, Buysse said. The subs are made to order. The Italian includes olive oil, red wine vinegar, ham, genoa, cotto, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, onion and pepper rings. The meatball and sausage sub has meatballs that are made in the shop and is topped with marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella.
Famous also offers deep-fried Buffalo wings in either boneless or bone-in varieties, he said. A favorite is the shop’s Aztec wing sauce. The Greek with greens salad is also a crowd pleaser, with romaine lettuce, feta cheese, Kalamata olives, onion, cucumber, tomatoes and Famous’ red wine vinaigrette.
Famous has a dog-friendly patio where customers can enjoy a slice and a pint while watching the trains go by on the other side of Route 66.
